What is the CIDB?

The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) is a national authority established by an Act of Parliament (Act 38 of 2000) to oversee the long-term viability and expansion of construction enterprises in South Africa.

What is the Purpose of CIDB?

The CIDB’s primary mission is to enable and promote the construction industry’s increased contribution to South Africa’s economy and society. The CIDB promotes, among other things, procurement uniformity in the construction industry. Delivery of infrastructure that is efficient and effective.

What are the Benefits of CIDB Registration for Construction Companies?
  1. Construction Tenders and Contracts: When your business is CIDB-registered and graded, it can commence contract work and submit bids for construction Tenders.
  2. CIDB Website Listing: Your company will be listed and registered on the CIDB’s website once you obtain a CIDB Number. This increases your company’s exposure and opportunities.
  3. List of Databases: Registered enterprises can use i-Tender for free. When new bid opportunities are added to the database, the i-Tender service automatically notifies registered contractors via email and SMS. Additionally, construction bids are published on the “CIDB Register of Projects / Tenders Page.”
Who is Required to Register with CIDB?
  • All Construction Contractors wishing to tender for construction projects in the public sector must be registered with the CIDB.Home building is excluded from the CIDB’s scope of work, which falls within the mandate of the National Home Builders Regulatory Council (NHBRC)
What are the Requirements to register with CIDB in South Africa?

What is the CIDB Level 2- 9 Grading Qualification Criteria?

To be eligible for CIDB Levels 2-9, you must meet the criteria outlined in the table below. The standards listed below are annual, and you must be able to present two years’ worth of financial statements for your Construction Company to prove the conditions listed below (must be signed off by your Accountant).  CIDB will  also require your original VAT 201 submission and VAT statements for two years.
